KMA is easily probably one of the best dojos in the state of Rhode Island. The dojo is beautiful, the staff are the best, and the training is one-of-a-kind. I've been training for about 3-4 and a half years here and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. If you're thinking of looking into martial arts, this is the place to be.

I have take Martial Arts at many dojos in my life and Kiefer's Martial Arts is one of the best with top level instructors that are passionate about their art and Renshi Mike Kiefer is one of the most personable instructors I have worked with. Our daughter Heather, just earned her 1st dan black belt in June, and she knows that if she puts her mind to somthing no matter how hard that she can accomplish it. Thanks Renshi Mike, Sensi Rob and all the others that make this dojo an excellent place to train.

Keifer's Martial Arts has had such a positive effect on Tyler. He is becoming a very confident capable young man because of this program. For parents it is additional positive reinforcement to what we are teaching at home. FAQs

Do I need to know jiu-jitsu or Judo to study Judo?

No, you don’t. There are beginner classes available and many of the people who study Judo have no prior martial arts training.

Do I need any special equipment to study Brazilian Martial Arts?

Students typically wear a Gi (two-piece garment worn by martial artists.) It is also typical for some students may want to wear a mouth guard. It’s a good idea to have a supply of athletic tape, as well.

As a beginner, do I need to spar?

No. Beginner classes focus on teaching basic techniques and safety, and you can then work your way up to controlled sparring in class.

Can Judo help me defend myself?

Absolutely. It’s one of the world’s most effective self-defense techniques and is often preferred because it teaches students to leverage their body weight to defeat larger opponents.

Will taking Judo classes help me lose weight?
